Programs

Nightly Dinner

Sunday-Thursday, 5:00-6:00 pm, 311 Temple Street
Friday-Saturday, 5:00-6:00 pm, 323 Temple Street (Yale Community Kitchen)

In order to avoid public gatherings of large numbers of people in an enclosed space, DESK is serving all dinners as “grab-and-go” in take-out containers or bags.  We currently are serving Sunday through Thursday at 5:00-6:00 pm.  We do not require any documentation or proof of eligibility or residence.

Weekly Food Pantry

Wednesday, 1:30-3:00 pm, 311 Temple Street

DESK’s weekly Food Pantry is operating during the COVID-19 crisis as pre-prepared “grab-and-go” bags.  We are open every Wednesday between 2:00 and 3:00 pm.  We do not require any documentation or proof of eligibility or residence.  Just show up!  If this time does not work, please see this online list of pantries that are operating during pandemic.  If you are over 60, immuno-compromised, or have tested positive for COVID-19 in recent weeks, please consider signing up for the Pantry t0 Pantry Food Delivery Program (below).

Drop-in & Resource Center

Sunday-Friday, 1:30-4:30 pm, 266 State Street

DESK’s newest program is located at 266 State Street, where we operate New Haven first Downtown, low-barrier Drop-in & Resource Center.  The space is open Sunday through Friday, from 1:30 to 4:30 pm for drop-in hours.  Guests can access wifi, use bathrooms, get coffee, tea, drinks, and snacks, hang out, chat with friends, and connect with case managers and outreach workers from our partner agencies.

DESK serves people who are experiencing homelessness or living in poverty by providing food assistance and services that promote healthcommunity, and equity.  Our programs are generally geared toward individuals and families with children who are experiencing food insecurity.

DESK seeks to maintain a “low barrier of entry to services,” which means that we try to ensure that there are as few obstacles to accessing help as possible.  For our Evening Meals program, anyone is welcome, no questions asked.  For our Food Pantry program, there is some very short and easy paperwork to fill out once per year, and each week clients are asked to sign in.  In the interest of privacy, DESK strictly forbids the use of multimedia recording devices of any kind during our program operations, unless written consent is given.
