CANning Hunger is a community building event that supports Downtown Evening Soup Kitchen’s goal of fighting food insecurity in the New Haven area. Local organizations have formed teams that will compete at New Haven’s International Festival of Arts & Ideas on June 15-16 to build the best sculpture out of canned goods according to the Festival’s theme: Home.
Judges and festival-goers can vote for their favorite teams and sculptures by making a tax-deductible donation to Downtown Evening Soup Kitchen. Each dollar is worth one vote, and you can “vote”as much as you’d like, and feel free to allocate for multiple teams. (For example, for a $10 donation, you can give each team two votes.)
Join us on the New Haven Green, along with MC Bruce Barber, on June 15, 12:00-3:30, as we watch and cheer on our CANning Hunger Teams as they construct their sculptures!
The Awards for Judges’ Choice, People’s Choice, and Most Cans will be announced just before the Sunday Night Concert on the Green on June 16, 5:30 pm.
At the conclusion of the event, all food will be donated to Downtown Evening Soup Kitchen and our partners.
