In order to avoid public gatherings of a large number of people in a closed space, DESK is serving all dinners as “grab and go” in to-go containers or bags. We are currently serving Sunday through Thursday at 5:00 pm. We do not require any documentation or proof of eligibility or residency.
Weekly food pantry
DESK’s weekly food pantry is operating during the COVID-19 crisis as pre-packaged “to go” bags. We are open every Wednesday from 2:00 to 3:00 pm. We do not require any documentation or proof of eligibility or residency. Just came! If this time does not work, see this online list of pantries that are operating during the pandemic. If you are over the age of 60, immunosuppressed, or have tested positive for COVID-19 in the past few weeks, consider signing up for the Pantry-to-Pantry Food Delivery Program (below).
Resource and Welcome Center
The new Welcome and Resource Center is finally here! We are open Sunday through Friday, 1:30-4:30 pm at 266 State Street (between Chapel and Crown). Guests can access the Internet, use a computer, grab a cup of coffee or tea and a snack, chat with volunteers, staff and outreach workers, and connect to services that can help them move beyond homelessness. Downtown Evening Soup Kitchen (DESK) serves people who are homeless or living in poverty, providing food assistance and services that promote health, community and equity. DESK operates a supper program, which offers a hot meal and bagged lunches, as well as a weekly food pantry and a children’s pantry program during the summer.
DESK hope for a day when people come to us not because they have to, but because they want to.
